Playlist for the Week #2 {01/04 - 07/04}

As you may remember, last Sunday I made a playlist for the coming week. Since it is Sunday again, I have decided to make another one! Here goes. [UPDATED VERSION]

MONDAY: We Are Not Good People - Bloc Party
This song is on FIFA 13, and whenever I'm round my dad's house I usually play FIFA. I also have it at my mum's house, so whenever I'm round there I still usually play FIFA. Whoops, wasting my life away on this game! This is my favourite song off of the soundtrack, and it's got me into Bloc Party quite a bit.

TUESDAY: Overdose - AC/DC
My favourite AC/DC song. I don't have anything specifically planned for Tuesday, but I have this massive feeling AC/DC are going to come into it somehow. I'm most likely not going to see them or anything on Tuesday, how out of the blue would that be? But I have a feeling listening to them will play a significant part in the day... or something.

WEDNESDAY: Spice Up Your Life - Spice Girls
We're going to see Viva Forever in London on Wednesday! I wasn't not supposed to know about this, but my sister kind of gave it away when she said "I know what we're really doing, but I'm not allowed to tell you" and immediately I went "We're seeing Viva Forever, aren't we." I knew my mother had it planned, but I didn't realise it would be this early since it was supposed to be for my birthday, which is 4 weeks away today! Yay! Anyway, this is my favourite Spice Girls song, so enjoy. :)

THURSDAY: Coming Home - Alter Bridge
We're coming home this day, but we're also going to Covent Garden, woohoooo! Here's a little bit of Alter Bridge again, since they are and probably always will be one of my favourite bands. I love them so much and if you like Foo Fighters, Guns n' Roses etc. I'd recommend them.

FRIDAY: Summertime Sadness - Lana Del Rey
I know it's not really what the song's about, but spring's not even near made an appearance so I'm sad and worried that summer might not come. How much of a downer would that be? I'm sick of winter. Pretty much literally.

SATURDAY: Morning Glory - Oasis
Just because I need a little more Oasis in my life. I'm at my mum's next weekend and for some reason I feel like next Saturday will have something to do with Oasis... hmm. I have very weird instincts.

SUNDAY: Standing In The Sun - Slash
I'm assuming it's most likely going to rain next Sunday because nice weather never stays with us for very long. The lyrics say "you could be standing out in the sun, still the rain's coming down" and although I'm assuming that is supposed to be a metaphor, it could be taken literally with damn British weather.

And there we have it! My playlist for the week.

Happy Easter Weekend!

Alright, so it's not quite Easter until tomorrow... but it's Easter weekend.

Yesterday, me and my sister got bored so we decided to bake a cake. Originally we wanted to make it into a colourful, speckled egg, however we didn't have a baking tin that was the right shape... which isn't surprising, really, seeing as we don't tend to make egg shaped cakes, they are usually round. So, instead we improvised with what we had and this is how it turned out...

Step 1. The mixing of the ingredients. This is my sister mixing the cake mix together - told you she'd make another appearance! We used a recipe off of BBC (thanks BBC!) and added a little more to the recipe.

Which you can't see from this photo, but you can see from this next one. Step 2. Adding the cocoa powder (we wanted a chocolate sponge), mixing it together and adding the mix to the cake tins. After greasing the tins, of course, otherwise the cakes will stick. We added three teaspoonfuls of Bournville cocoa powder to the mix - testing it each time to see if it tasted alright. I think we could've added a little more really...

...and as you can see, it's barely filled the tins. This is just one of them, obviously. Our tins were too wide, oops. However since we had self raising flour we hoped they'd raise a lot more.

Nope.

Step 3. Which is technically 4, since I'm skipping the part where we take the cakes out of the oven and let them cool etc. etc. blah blah blah. Time for decorating, yay! We used Dr Oetker Hundreds & Thousands, and also a little ring Amber had left over from when she bought a cupcake the other day; the ring was in the top of the cupcake so we sort of stole their idea...

Et voila! Easter cake, done and dusted decorated. The bunny looks like it's lying in a field of flowers, if only grass was cream coloured. Yeah... we made a vanilla butter icing, I think it would have been better if we made chocolate butter icing to go with the chocolate sponge BUT HEY! That's just not how we rolled yesterday.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post and if you did, please tell me because I can assure you there is more baking where that came from! Me and my sister bake quite a lot, especially when our mother is out... whoops.

Fashion Friday #1

Excuse the cheesy title... I like alliteration, don't judge. And I also may make this a regular thing depending on if you guys like it or not!

The first edition of Fashion Friday is sort of like a special edition, as it focuses around those shorts that I wore at the Wedgewood Rooms that I was going to post a picture of them but they were in for washing at the time... Well, now they have been washed and I have a picture of them! Ta-da!

They're so preeetttyy. I bought them from Primark for only £10, if you're interested. Anyway - let's get on with this post. I have created a set using Polyvore (follow me here, I'll follow back!) of how and what I wore these shorts with. However, there were a couple of minor changes... Primark are annoying and do not have an online catalogue, meaning I can't 'grab' the photo and use the actual item(s) in the set! Therefore, I had to make do with some incredibly sweet substitutes with the shorts, tights and shoes.

Yep, you see it right. I wore a dress with the shorts. Basically how I managed to do this was I pulled the hem upwards so the skirt part was folded over, then I pulled it round myself and folded it even more at the back and somehow managed to tuck it into the tights. Then, I simply pulled the shorts on over the top of the tights, et voila! Successfully wearing a dress with shorts, surprisingly with minimal lumps and bumps. The tights I've included in the set are pretty much nothing like the ones I wore (as I couldn't find ones like the ones I wore) but I think any fancy patterned tights will look good. Also, you do not have to wear the Metallica necklace I included in the set (I wore this one onstage) as I know not everyone's going to like Metallica. Just wear any necklace that looks good with the rest of the outfit.

I hoped you liked this post, I'd appreciate any feedback you may have - what you liked, what you didn't like, and what you think I could add to it/improve on! Meanwhile, here is a bonus picture of my sister... her idea of photobombing ;)

She looks pretty scary actually. But don't worry, I do have her permission to use this photo, she wanted to be on the blog, lol. Stay tuned for more blog posts involving my sister... the next one being tomorrow! :)

10 Questions... because why not?

I've decided to answer some questions I found online as a way you guys can get to know me better. So, here goes... :)

1) Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?
I grew up in an average sized town, and I still live there. I don't really like it that much and I can't wait to move out of it - it's just so uninteresting and there's barely anything to do. Living in the same place your whole life gets boring after a while.

2) Favourite class?
Music! Though then again, it is the only class I do now... so I suppose I should pick a "sub-class" from music. That would definitely be rehearsals.

3) Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing set?
I loved swinging, it was my favourite thing about going to the park. And I don't really get excited as such but when I'm out with my best friend and we end up down the park, we always sit on the swings.

4) If you could have any pet in the world, illegal or not, what would you get?
I really, really, really want a husky. They are my favourite breed of dog and although I prefer cats to dogs, I prefer huskies to cats... if that makes any sense at all.

5) Madonna or Lady Gaga?
I'll have to go with Lady Gaga, I'm not really a big fan of either but I think Gaga's a lot more fresh, original and new. Madonna was amazing in her heyday but that's long over now and I get the vibe she's still stuck in the 80s/90s. She needs to accept she's getting older now.

6) Hottest celebrity in your opinion?
Morgan Schneiderlin. I didn't even need to stop to think, I immediately knew that was my answer. He's also a damn good footballer too, and he needs more credit for that. He's seriously underrated.

7) What's the most delicious food you've ever eaten?
Tiramisu, definitely! I had it for the first time in Malta in late 2006 I think it was, and I fell in love straight away. I can't say how happy I am every time I have it... as silly as that may sound.

8) What was your favourite cartoon growing up?
Hmmm... probably Powerpuff Girls. I've loved it pretty much my whole life and apparently it's coming back late this year and Ringo Starr (from The Beatles if you didn't know already) is supposed to be voicing one of the characters, yay!

9) If you had to look at one city skyline for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I'd probably say Paris. It's just so pretty looking and very photogenic. I'd love to just look out my window and see the Eiffel Tower. Portsmouth has its own pretty tower too (Spinnaker Tower), but it's a lot more modern and I prefer the vintage feel of the Eiffel Tower.

10) If you had to move to another country, where would you move to?
I'm not too sure. France, Finland or the USA, if I'm allowed to pick the exact state and city. If so, I'd move to Huntington Beach, California.

That's all! If you liked the questions feel free to answer them yourselves, and if you want to you could even send me your answers. I'd love to hear what you'd answer the questions with.

Winter blues.

The title should technically be misleading, seeing as it is supposed to be spring. But 'supposed to be' is the key phrase.. seriously spring, WHERE ARE YOU?

It seems the whole of the UK is in semi-permanent winter right now. Hopefully not fully permanent, or we'll be like Narnia, except without the Narnia part. Fun, ehh?

I don't really have much to complain about seeing as Gosport and the surrounding areas have had barely any snow compared to many other places in the UK. However, put it this way. It's snowed multiple times already this year. Last year, the snow did not even make the tiniest little cameo appearance. Boooo.

So, the question is... when is winter going to go bye-bye? I've seriously had enough of it now, and I'm sure the majority of people have too. I've heard it's even driven people to depression! Woah.

iamthepoptartqueen.

Well... no, not really.

But I have been buying A LOT lately and due to AmazingPhil (check him out if you haven't already, he's awesome!) and the time he first tried a Pop Tart, a Cookies and Creme Pop Tart to be exact, I have been trying to find Cookies and Creme Pop Tarts for myself. Going by where Phil found them (Tesco, yay!) I proceeded to go on a Pop Tart hunt...

So today I met up with my friend in Fareham and I told him about my hunt for these specific Pop Tarts. Luckily, we have a super big Tesco in Fareham (complete with a Costa Coffee, yay! As if we don't have enough in Fareham already... we have another two. Yes. TWO.) so we decided to have a little looksie in there. Well. They did have Pop Tarts, but only the Choctastic ones. Sadtimes! We then decided to look in this American sweet shop tucked away behind the high street.

And guess what? No Cookies and Creme Pop Tarts there either! By now we had run out of places to look, as I'd already looked in Morrisons and Asda with no such luck (they're back in Gosport anyway). Also, the little corner shop a couple of minutes away from my house has all but one of the variety of Pop Tarts this sweet shop had. Also, for 90p cheaper. Disappointment!

Cookies & Creme Pop Tarts... I WILL find you. One day.
So then I texted my sister asking her if she'd settle for the Choctastic Pop Tarts from back in Tesco as I was happy to settle for those, having never tried them. She said yes, and now we have the Choctastic Pop Tarts, yaaaaay!

And so ended the hunt for the Cookies and Creme Pop Tarts. For now. Cookies and Creme Pop Tarts, I will find you (eventually). And I WILL EAT YOU.
If anyone knows what shops in England do C&C Pop Tarts, I would much appreciate if you could let me know! Also, thank you for reading my silly ramblings about Pop Tarts. This is probably one of the weirdest posts I will ever make.

University and festival dilemmas!

This September I'm due to go to university, however I realised my UCAS application* hadn't been processed...

My best friend informed me that universities need to have responded by the end of this month, so I decided to get my butt in gear and go into college today to sort it out, even though I don't have college on Mondays. You see, these things are very important to get sorted out and I'm not one for messing about! However, I am one for procrastinating until the very last minute, whoops. Fingers crossed I'll get this sorted!

Meanwhile, if it does get sorted in time, the question is... WHERE DO I GO?! My top two options are to a) stay on at college for another two years doing the level 4 music course and then go to Southampton Solent uni for the third year to combine it into a degree, or b) go straight to Solent and do a three year degree. If I go for option A, it'll be cheaper in terms of education fees and whatnot. And I'll stay at home. However, if I go with option B, although it'll be a bit more expensive, I can move out and become a lot more independent. And I'll get to move to Southampton, yaaay! Gosport's okay, but everybody knows the city is more exciting.

I guess this is down to me to decide.

-----------------

Anyway! Onto the topic of festivals. Many of you may know I was planning on going to Download this year, but then plans changed and I ended up having no one to go with. My dad found out about this, and so offered to pay for a day ticket to Isle of Wight for the Friday so I could go with him and my sister. Seeing as I thought I wouldn't be able to go to Download, I accepted. Here comes the annoying part. A matter of hours later, I found someone to go to Download with but by then it was too late, of course. Seriously though - look how good the line-up is!

And then I realised I could get a day ticket for the Saturday, however the thing that puts me off is the cost of actually getting up there and back... also the fact I will probably have nowhere to stay after the night finishes, as I live too far away from Download to actually get back at a decent time! Dilemmas, dilemmas. I really don't want to miss out on Iron Maiden and Alice in Chains though - they're two of my favourite bands... ahhh.

Sadtimes.

* for those who don't know, you use UCAS to apply for universities :)

Playlist for the Week #1 {25/03 - 31/03}

So... I have decided it would be cool to create a playlist based on what's happening this week (links included!). I might do this every week, I'm not too sure yet! But here goes...

MONDAY: Still Into You - Paramore
They have another new song out yaaaayy! It's a cutesy, catchy little number with just the right amount of adorable cheesiness. Go listen!

TUESDAY: Blackbird - Alter Bridge
Tuesday's a pretty sad day for me, seeing as it's the 7 year anniversary of when my nan passed away. So here's a sad, slow song for today... sadface :(

WEDNESDAY: See You - Foo Fighters
It's such an underrated song by one of the worlds biggest bands (and one of my favourite bands). Dave's voice is just so beautiful. Yeah... I really, REALLY love Dave Grohl.

THURSDAY: Teddy Picker - Arctic Monkeys
This has been my favourite song by them for ages. My friends' band is like Arctic Monkeys, so this reminds me of them. And Thursday's a long day and I'll see them.

FRIDAY: Blow Up The Outside World - Soundgarden
My favourite song by my favourite band. It's just such a calm and chill song, and I do believe we have the day off on Friday so I'll probably wake up and listen to that.

SATURDAY: No Excuses - Alice in Chains
I love this song so much, it's quite soft in terms of Alice in Chains songs. Although I'm pretty gutted that I'm no longer able to go to Download, meaning I'll miss them...

SUNDAY: Paranoid - Black Sabbath
I couldn't not include the godfathers of metal. Bit of Sabbath on Sunday! Or.. Sabbath. Because Sunday is Sabbath. Sabbath just looks like a weird word now.

I hoped you liked this post! There may be more to come, who knows...

The past couple of days...

...I have stayed at home. On Thursday, we had a day off anyway since it was the day after the gig and since we're in till 5:30, our teachers decided to let us have the day off. So what did I do? Spent it playing guitar and on the Xbox. I wasn't on it for very long though, as I had to go round my dad's and also I kept dying on the same quest. All in all, Thursday was pretty uneventful!

As for yesterday (Friday) I was actually supposed to go into college, but I really wasn't feeling it and didn't feel too good either. This time I did actually go on the Xbox for a lot longer, on my favourite game... Skyrim!  I finally managed to finish the quest that defeated me on Thursday which made me happy, and I also did a lot more work on building and decorating my house (Hearthfire DLC, yay!) however it is still not finished. From the exterior it looks pretty finished, but don't let that deceive you... there is much furniture to be built, and all my things to transfer from my house in Windhelm...

However, it is pretty close to being finished. This is a view of the interior from the upstairs, looking over the banister railings. Oooh, nice honey pot on the shelf that I didn't notice before! Now how the hell did they manage to get that there without spilling any on the floor?

Anyway, that's enough of my adventures in the beautiful land of Skyrim. After I'd finished up with this, I went to see my best friend for a quick catch-up which was lovely :) I was only round hers for an hour, but at least it was something. Another thing I did yesterday was watch the most ridiculous football match I've ever seen - England vs. San Marino. San Marino are a part-time national team - I read that all but one of the team have other occupations. At least their coach is a P.E. teacher though! Apparently they're also the worst national football team in the world. The proof is in the fact England beat them 8-0! Literally though, each time England scored they celebrated like I celebrate when my mum says we're getting takeaway.

As opposed to when they run around the stadium with their arms outstretched yelling their success.

That's how rubbish San Marino are. England put next to no effort in to score those eight goals.

Easter gig at the Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth!

So... on the 20th March (Wednesday just gone) I had my college gig at one of the best venues in my local area, the Wedgewood Rooms. It was so much fun and I personally think it was my best performance yet. Funny that, seeing as it's the least prepared we've been for a gig! Here is a photo of me during the performance (image courtesy of my mother):

Or rather, image courtesy of me since I spent the last half hour watching a video - which IS courtesy of my mumma - and pausing it at suitable places to screenshot and save the images. I tried to capture when me and Shannon started dancing at each other, but unfortunately each time I tried to screenshot, it came out blurry... so instead, you will have to watch the video ;) It's not the whole song but a fair amount of it at least. We wrote this song; it's called 'Good Time' and it was originally supposed to be a party song...

I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed writing and performing it :) Sorry that some of it is sideways! Also you can't hear during that song, but my friend kindly let me borrow his bass distortion pedal for the gig so I could add some, y'know, distortion to my bass. If you're interested, this was our setlist...

1) Good Time - Rough Love (our song yaaaay!)
2) I Knew You Were Trouble - Taylor Swift (complete with bass pedal and goat noises)
3) Locked Out Of Heaven - Bruno Mars
4) Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye (we did a dubstep version of this, more bass pedal!)

Meanwhile, I got THE most fabulous shoes for this gig - concealed wedge trainers which cost only £18 from Primark. If you're looking to buy them too you'll be happy to know I only got them this Monday just gone, so I'd imagine they are still well in stock!

They do become a little bit uncomfortable after a while, but they are incredibly comfy in terms of heels and wedges. As you can see from the video, I had no problem dancing about the stage in them. Also, here's my trusty Metallica necklace which is pretty much the only necklace I had to match the shoes and my outfit. But that's okay, because Metallica are one of my favourite bands.

I would upload a photo of the shorts, but they're now in for washing... whoops. Probably should have thought about that before! Maybe when I get them back in my wardrobe I'll take a photo of them, but for now you can sort of make them out if you go to my Flickr and have a flick through the photos.

Yes, pun intended.

A little introduction...

Well, hello there! Many of you will already know me (since I probably sent you the link) but in case you don't know, I am Kirstie. This will be a little blog of everything in my life; day-to-day events such as college, birthdays, days of staying at home doing next to nothing, shopping trips... and possibly the occasional venting post of my teenage angst. I hope you'll enjoy reading my blog, and I will be posting again soon with, um... the next post. Bye for now :)
